Originally established in 1870 as Greenwood County, the Arkansas River was the life blood of the county. The name was changed in 1874 to Bent, named after Bent's Fort. In 1889, the counties of Prowers, Kiowa, Otero, Cheyenne and Lincoln were formed from parts of Bent County.

To get an idea of where Bent County is in Colorado, below is a simple map showing Bent County in green.

I have recently taken over as County Coordinator for Bent County. And I would like to thank Kathy Leigh for the marvelous work she has done to bring this project to where it is at today.
