BROOMFIELD COUNTY, COLORADO
Broomfield County is Colorado's newest county, formed by statute in November 1998. It encompasses part of Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld Counties. It has made history however in that the town of Broomfield, founded in 1877 as Zang's Spur, grew into the city of Broomfield, and finally became an independent county in the state of Colorado. While we realize there is no past history to research for this county as such, we must also realize that we are creating tomorrow's history. Therefore, one of the things we will be doing is attempting to record the county "happenings" now. There is history of the area, however - found in the old records of Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld Counties. The town of Zang's Spur was named after A.J. Zang, owner/founder of Zang's Brewery. The town's name changed to Broomfield around 1900, because of the volume of "broom corn" which was grown extensively in the area. Please understand that this page is UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Bookmark it and visit again soon. We hope to be adding material as we find it! Meanwhile, we are looking for Lookup Volunteers who live in the area. Please contact us if you would like to help preserve yesterday and today for tomorrow's generations. msaban@wyoming.com View our 1888 County Maps of Colorado to view Arapahoe, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld Counties.
