only the clickable addresses are retrieved. Welcome to Jefferson County, Colorado. It was organized as one of the original counties of the Colorado Territory. It takes its name from Thomas Jefferson, and orginally was its own territory - Jefferson Territory. In 1870 it had grown to a population of 2390, and by 1990 the population stood at 438,430. One thing to point out is that in 1858 the population in the area was estimated to be only around 200, but by 1860 there was a huge population growth of around 35,000 - all due to the Colorado Gold Rush 1859. Obviously, by 1870 life had settled back down to a "normal" scene with slow, steady growth. To help historians and genealogists, here is the address and website for the Jefferson County Government:
