NOTES:

The name Brouse is interchangeable in the census with PROUSE, PRAUS and PROUCE. It is thought, but not proven to us, that the name originally was BRAUSZ. And some say that the name is Dutch from Holland. We have not been to prove just who her parents are, or the country of origin for her father.

However, we cannot locate a Michael Brouse (using Soundex) in the index for 1800 and 1810. The census for 1800 and 1810 for Ohio does not exist, indicating perhaps he was in Ohio by 1800. However, Michael Brouse does not appear in the 1820 Ohio Census index, using soundex for variations. His son, Michael, appears in Wayne County by 1830 but not the elder Michael Brouse.

We would love to contact anyone researching the Brouse/Prouse/Brausz surnames, especially pertaining to Ohio and Pennsylvania. Just send us an e-mail by clicking here.
