We have been able to trace most of Eldridge's life from 1850 forward. In 1850 and 1860, he was living with John Whiteaker . For a comprehensive review of how Melvina Whiteaker was related to John Whiteaker, please visit our new Judge John Whiteaker 1795. We believe Melvina Whiteaker was the daughter of John Whiteaker and Dorcas Campbell.
Please note below that a John S. Wood signed Eldridge's enlistment papers in Iowa was his "Guardian". We believe this is Major John S. Wood of the 7th Iowa Cavalry who commanded the unit Eldridge served with. We do not know how or why John S. Wood was Guardian of Eldridge.
In 1868 Eldridge married Cordelia Maria Tague, daughter of Thomas and Phebe Tague. They all moved to Clarksville, Merrick County, Nebraska where they were enumerated in 1870 and 1880.
Cordelia died August 1, 1884, either in Clarksville before the family moved to Genoa, Nance County, Nebraska or sometime after.
Eldridge remarried in 1887 to Grace Minnie Moore who had been his housekeeper in the 1885 Nebraska State Census.
Eldridge died in 1901 and is buried in Valley View Cemetery in Genoa, Nance County, Nebraska, along with his wife Grace Minnie, several children and two unidentified persons (possibly Cordelia?)

| Obituary from Genoa Leader-Times
June 28, 1945 (copy in file) Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Grace Campbell, who passed away at her home on Friday evening following a long illness, were held at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. T. W. Shepard officiated. Mrs. Minnie Grace Campbell nee Moore was born in Merringo, Merringo County, Illinois, October 25, 1866. She departed this life very peacefully in Friday evening, June 22, 1945, at the age of 78 years 7 months and 27 days, after suffering ill health for the past ten years. At the age of four years she came to Nebraska with her parents. They traveled in a covered wagon train consisting of severl wagons composed of relatives, all of whom settled near Boone in Boone County, Nebraska. She grew to early womanhood on a farm homesteaded by her father. In later years she revelled in telling of her experience with the wild Indians, prairie Fires, the grasshopper plague and many other exciting events. On April 27, 1887 she united in marriage with Eldridge E. Campbell of Genoa, Nebraska, who preceded her in death in 1902. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive her passing. A son Walter preceded her in death in 1918. Mrs. Campbell was always a devout Christian, assisting in and out of the church wherever and whenever her services were needed. Having resided in Genoa all of her marriage life, with the exception of twelve years, she had many pleasures with her friends and neighbors. She leaves to mourn her departure one son, George of Los Angeles, California, two daughters, Jessie Bock of Los Angeles, California and Rhoda, at home. Two stepsons, Edd of Clarks, and J. Will of Winside, and a step-daughter, Mrs. J. P. Saban of Shell, Wyoming. Also twenty-two grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Four sisters, Mrs. Buick of Palo Alto, California, Mrs. Tigner of Van Nuys, California, Mrs. Magden of Elgin, Illinois and Miss Mildred Moore of San Francisco, California, together with a host of friends, who will miss her genial personality. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. |
