associated with the American History and Genealogy ProjectO. Z. McDowell was born June 9, 1903 in Columbus, Georgia, the son of William David McDowell and Pinkie Elizabeth Jones. He worked his entire working life in the textile mills.
He married (1) Mattie Pearl Vance sometime before June 1922. We have not found their marriage record yet. They later divorced after 1930. And he married (2) Edna Lucille Bryant sometime before May 1934.
Mattie Pearl Vance was born June 21, 1905 and died September 1985 in Phenix City, AL. She married Edward J. Meadors sometime before 1946 when their daughter Joanne was born.
Edna Lucille Bryant was born December 4, 1917 in Ocilla, Irwin County, Georgia. She died in November 1984 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. Her obituary is listed below

O. Z. MCDOWELL
O. Z. McDowell, 72, of 1340 Rhodes Street, died Monday at the Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Evangel Temple, with burial in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Mr. Mcdowell was born June 9, 1903, in Columbus, son of the late David William and Pinky McDowell. A member of Evangel Temple, he lived in Columbus all of his life and retired in 1965 after 40 years with Swift Textile Company.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Lucille McDowell, Columbus; a son, James David McDowell, Phenix City; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Edna Harrison, Columbus; Mrs. Louise Saban, Worland, Wyoming; and Mrs. Anita ? of Miami Fla.; a brother, William McDowell, California; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Vance and Mrs. Evelyne Brown, both of Columbus; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.November 1984

Edna McDowell
Edna Lucille Mcdowell, 66, of 1340 Rhodes St., Columbus, died Saturday at the Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Evangel Temple Assembly of God with burial in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus.
Mrs. McDowell was born Dec 4, 1917 in Ocilla, GA, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bryant. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Counsil of Evangel Temple, a homemaker and the widow of O.Z. McDowell.
Survivors include a son, David McDowell of Phenix City; twp daughters, Betty E. Harrison of Columbus and Anita Rhodes of Miami; a sister, Vivian Kite of Warner Robins; a brother, Willard Bryant of Macon; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
