WILLIAM DAVID McDOWELL

'Papa Will'

Born - Probably January 1880 in or near Travelers Rest, Coosa County, Alabama

Notes:

1. He is in the 1880 census and listed as 6/12 months old. Census page was enumerated 22 June 1880 which technically would put his birth in between November 23 and December 22, 1879. However, one of the common errors in counting (in this case months) is to count the month you start in. In this case - June, May, April, March, February and January. This 'erroneous' method of counting would put his birth month as January. Keeping in mind that usually the enumerator would ask when the child was born and then do the math himself, it would be logical to presume he was told 'January' as the month the baby was born. The enumerator would then count forward or backward. If he erroneously started counting forward in January (or backward in June), he would end up with six months.

2. The 1900 census lists his birth month as January. We know the year of 1881 is incorrect, since he was listed in the 1880 census as a baby. However, the January might ring true based on the presumptions in note '1' above.

Parents - James A. McDowell and Emily/Emily Waits/Waites

Married - 1) Pinkie Elizabeth Jones around 1900 in Columbus, Muskogee County, Georgia and 2) Stella (last name not known) between 1920 and 1930.

Note: Pinkie Elizabeth Jones McDowell died October 1918 in Columbus, Moskogee County, Georgia. She was the daughter of James L. Jones and Ella Yarbrough.

Died - November 26, 1936 in Columbus, Muskogee County, Georgia. Georgia Death Certificate Number 31904. Original certificate on order from State of Georgia.

Buried - Riverdale Cemetery, Columbus, Muskogee County, Georgia
