MC ELMURRAY, T. J., born Burke Co., 1841, son of Minis H. McElmurray and Emily Leslie, dau. of William and Sarah (Hankinson) Leslie; g-son of Andrew and Martha (Hankinson) McElmurray. T. J., was graduated from Mercer U, and attended lectures at Augusta Medical College. He enlisted in CSA in 1861 and served throughout the conflict. In 1861 he m/1 Louise, dau. of William and Mariah (Sharp) Barrou. They had four children. He m/2 in 1875, Mary, dau. of William and Jane (Darlington) Chandler. They were parents of six children. Mr. McElmurray was a prominent merchant, farmer, was elected ordinary and in 1884 elected to the senate.

Judson McElmurray Died Here Tuesday After Long Illness
Mr. Judson Sapp McElmurray, one of Waynesboro's most prominent citizens, died at his residence here Tuesday night after a lingering illness.
Mr. McElmurray left to mourn, his wife, Mrs. Haidee Routzhan McElmurray; one daughter, Mrs. Peyton W. Thompson; four grandchildren, Haidee, Florence, Peyton, Jr., and Judson S. Thompson; four sisters, Mrs. N. B. F. Close, of Savannah; Mrs. James Cothran, of Atlanta; Mrs. Charles A. Gray and Mrs. Frank L. Brinson of Waynesboro; and four brothers, W. L., H. G., Joe and Howell McElmurray, all of Waynesboro.
Mr. McElmurray spent all of his life in Burke County filling many prominent positions both in Waynesboro and in Washington, D. C. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of the S. A. E. fraternity. While at the university he distinguished himself in oratory and was awarded a gold medal for excellence in oratorical contests.
Mr. McElmurray has been a great suffering for several years, but bore his illness with fortitude and high Christian courage.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. E. M. Overby and Rev. Willis E. Howard officiating. The interment was in Magnolia Cemetery.

MC ELMURRAY, John F., brother of above named T. J., was born in Burke Co., 1842. John F. was educated at Mercer U., and enlisted in CSA in 1861, served as Captain in Co. K, 32nd Ga. Regt. In 1865 he married Anna, dau. of Judge Joseph A. and Caroline (Hankinson) Shewmake. Judge Shewmake served on bench of Inferior Court and a member of the legislature from Burke Co. for many years. Mr. McElmurray was a farmer, J. P., served on county school board and was also elected to the legislature. They were parents of 6 children: Leslie, Caroline, Lorraine, Thomas J., John F., Jr., and Sarah.
