On this twenty third day of April one thousand eight hudred and sixty six personally appeared before me Scamin (?) F. Humphreys Judge of the Police Court of Bangor within and for the County and State aforesaid, James McKeen aged 48 years, a resident of Eddington County of Penobscot in the State of Maine, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical James McKeen who was enrolled in the service of the United States at Bangor ME on the twenty-seventh day of April in the year 1861 as a Private in Company "C" commanded by Captain E. N. Jones in the second Regiment of Maine Vols in the War of 1861, and was honorably discharged on the ninth day of June in the year 1863; that while in the service aforesaid, and in the line of his duty, at a place called Groveton, VA on or about the 30th day of August 1862 he while engaged in said battle received a wound from a bullet in his left leg above the knee which disabled him for duty for a month but kept with his Regt and after at a Fredericksburgh VA Dec 14, 1862 while engaged in battle he received another wound from a bullet in his left arm about 4 inches from the hand which disabled him entirely and did no mm duty until he was mustered out at the expiration of his term of enlistment. His arm became stiff by reason of said wound so that he is unable to close his fingers on his hand and it is so weak that he can do no manuel labor with it. Afterward he enlisted in Co B of the 1st ME Heavy Artillery and served with said co the 11th of Sept 1865 when he was mustered out.
That he has resided in said Eddington since his discharge; done no labor of any kind, not being able; been steady in his habits and done nothing to aggravate his said wounds that his occupation is that of a carpenter and that he is in consequence of said wounds totally disabled from procuring his subsistence by manual labor. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of procuring an Invalid Pension, under the pension laws of the United States.
That he hereby constitutes and appoints M.P. Nickerson of Bangor, Maine, his true and lawful Attorney, and authorizes him to prosecute this claim and receive for his use the Pension Certificate issued hereon.

Paine and Geo B Martin residents of Bangor County of Penobscot State of Maine, persons whom I certifiy to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say they were present and saw James McKeen sign his name to the foregoing declaration; and they further swear that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of the applicant, and their acquaintance with him, that he is the identical person he represents himself to be; and they further state that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
