WAR OF 1812
POWELL EATON JOINER'S REG'T NORTH CAROLINA MILITIA. PRIVATE PRIVATE 167 602

POWELL, EATON
State: NC Year: 1812
County: Halifax County Regiment Record Type:
Township: Second Company Page:
Database: NC 1812-1814 Muster Roll

Died - between 1850 and 1860.

Eaton and Mary were in the 1850 Montgomery County TN census. We have not found them in the 1860 census, either in Tennessee or Illinois. We have located most of their children - Warren is in Moultrie County ILL. Nancy (Richard Vaughn) was in Moultrie County Illinois and two of the younger Powell children - Solomon (age 10) and Susan (age 16) are living with her. Wylie is living in Bond County, ILL with a Rench family working as a farmhand. We have not yet found Rose Catherine (Ichabod Aikins), William or Robert in the 1860 census.

Therefore, we believe that Eaton and Mary both died before 1860. But whether they died in Montgomery County, Tennessee or Moultrie County, Illinois (where most of their children went) is unknown.

Married Holley Adams, sometime before 1815, probably in North Carolina or Tennessee. It is believed she was the daughter of Benjamin and Zelphia Adams. She apparently died before 1830.

Married Mary Causey, sometime before 1830. Mary was born about 1803 in North Carolina. We do not know who were parents were, but it is possible due to her younger age that she was the daughter of Thomas Causey and Mary Ann Swift, which would make her an older sister of Rhoda Stafford Causey who married William C. Powell (son of Eaton Powell by his first wife) or she may have been a daughter of Robert Causey, making her a sister of Nellie Causey).

3. Based on the 1820 census, Eaton and Holley Powell had two sons and one daughter. The daughter was born between 1815 and 1820. There is also an unidentified older female, ten years younger than Holley.

It is difficult to decipher the 1830 census because of the second marriage which supposedly occurred around 1830. Most researchers attribute Nancy E Powell as a daughter of Mary Causey, the second wife of Eaton Powell. If this is true, and Mary Causey is the older female listed in the 1830 census,

Children from Eaton and Holley:

Benjamin E. Powell would be in the 10-15 bracket or possibly 15-20 bracket. He is found in the 15-20 bracket.

William C. Powell would be in the 10-15 bracket. He is found in the 10-15 bracket

Unnamed daughter would be in the 10-15 bracket. There is no female in the 10-15 bracket. There is one in the 5-10 bracket. If this is the Unnamed Powell daughter, born between 1815 and 1820, then she was born in 1820 right before census time.

Children from Eaton and Mary:

Nancy E. Powell, one of the two "under 5" females listed

Unidentified in 1830 as to where to put them:

One of the two "under 5" females listed

The one "under 5" male listed

NOTE: If Eaton and Mary Causey did not marry until 1830, it is highly possible that Eaton and Holley had another son and another daughter.
