| MY TOMPKINS FAMILY DATA |
Mabel Ella Tompkins was my
grandmother, born in Mineral, Bureau County, Illinois in
1878. Her parents were Joseph and Mary Alice (Conibear)
Tompkins and moved West to Aurora, Hamilton County,
Nebraska before 1880. We are not sure when they came to
Bassett, Rock County, Nebraska, but family stories say
sometime aound 1882 or 1883. They homesteaded near
Bassett, but for a brief period of time in the 1890's
they lived in South Dakota. They returned to Bassett,
only to have Joseph die of blood poisoning in 1900. Mary
Alice stayed there in the Bassett area until she
remarried in 1910 and returned to Sheffield, Bureau
County, Illinois. Bassett was home to all their children,
and this page is in honor of every one of them as well as
Joseph and Mary Alice.
