According to several sources sent to me, Allen died in February 1882 in Marysville, Nodaway County, Missouri. Sarah, according to the same sources, died December 26, 1853 also in Marysville, Nodaway County, Missouri.

My Notes: If Sarah Ann Loughrey Tompkins died in Missouri, then the 1860 census is saying that they as a family moved to Missouri, then Allen returned to Illinois with his family by 1860, and then later returned to Missouri. Anyone out there who can substantiate any of this, or whatever? Anyone have the 1870 and 1880 census?

I received a letter dated April 1, 2000 from Lynn Kappelmann that suggests much different information:

"Re Allen Tompkins s/o William I got info from a lady in AZ that he left Illinois and went to AZ to mine for gold - she said he died out there before 1895 - this was in Payson AZ. The above-mentioned lady under #1 (reference to another paragraph) said her in-laws researched the Tompkins in Bureau Co., and that Allen's wife Sarah Ann Loughrey d 26 Dec 1854 in Bureau Co., IL and buried in an isolated spot in Indiantown Twp, Bureau Co., Il along with their dau Elizabeth who d Apr 1864. Allen may have left after the death of his wife. I show some of Rebecca Tompkins Cole's ch living in Albany, Nodoway Co., MO but none of Allen's ch being there. (I notice you show Allen and wife dying at the above-mentioned MO address)."
