Sometime between January 17, 1845 when their son Eldridge Campbell was born, and August 1850 (date of 1850 census enumeration), something occurred in the families' lives that forced Eldridge to be living with his grandfather, John Whiteaker, in Lee County, Iowa as well as in 1860 in Knox County, Missouri. There are estate papers listing John Whiteaker of Ft. Madison, Lee County, Iowa as the guardian of the minor child, Eldridge Campbell. These are dated in the late 1850's. However, we have not yet found the original filing showing who the deceased was.
There are no indications that there were siblings of Eldridge Campbell.
