Donna Lee lived with her mother and step-father, Joseph Edmund Ready, until she left home and moved to California.  She attended Denver public schools, and at West Denver High School was a member of the Drama Club, was a Junior Escort and was a member of the staff of the West High School All School Radio.

She remained at home as a stay at home mother with her daughters until they were in high school.  She then took a job with the American Cancer Society where she had volunteered for some time.  She also volunteered for the Leukemia Society.  In the early 1970s after working as a cook she got her certification as a dietician, working in nursing homes.

After marrying Jack Armstrong, she stayed at home and cared for him until he passed in 1987.  She continued to work part time as a dietician, even after her retirement until she became too ill to work.
