Fred was the oldest son of Frederick James Thompson and Agnes Templeton Meikle. By his early teens he was operating the farm equipment along side the men in the field. He was close to his parents and his brothers. And in the 1950's when the doctors in Denver advised moving Agnes to sea level for her health, the family moved her to Venice, California to live with Fred and his family. Fred and Hazel took care of Agnes for the last year of her life.

Until the death of his first wife, Marion, Fred apparently worked on both the Thompson ranch and at the auto dealership in Arvada that the family owned. After Eleanor's death, he chose to set off on an independent path in life. At the time of his death, he was a manager of a motel in Olympia, Thurston County, Washington at 313 North Cushing St. (Information from death certificate.)
