LAMBERT - Mary A. Lambert
Mary A. Lambert, wife of former Riverton resident Jack Lambert and friend to many longtime Riverton residents, died on Friday, Sept 15, 2000 in San Angelo, Texas following a long battle with emphysema. Cremation has taken place.
Mary Alice Whittington was born in Rogers, Texas on Aug 7, 1919. Her parents were Vena and A.P. Whittington. Mary was graduated from Cameron (Texas) High School in 1936.
In 1943, while working for the telephone company in San Antonio, she met Air Force Cadet Jackson E. Lambert, who was a flight instructor at Brookfield Air force Base. They were married a few months after meeting, on June 23, 1943. After the war, Mary and Jack moved to Duncan, Okla, where Jackson was employed by Mobil Oil Co. they also lived in Odessa, Texas, and Lafayette, La., before settling in San Angelo, where Jack worked for Concho Concrete until his retirement.
Her family says that from her first visit to Riverton in 1943, Mary grew to love the mountains and prairies of Wyoming and remained friends her whole life with many people here in Fremont County. She was especially close to Jack's parents, Marie and Lester Lambert, and to Jack's sister, Paula Rix and her husband Dick. The family says some of Mary's happiest times were spent at Frank and Esther Hays' homestead along the Wind River and at Dr. Tonkin's cabin off Brooks Lake Road.
Mary loved to read and spent many years as a volunteer at her local library. She read the Dallas Morning News from front to back, the family says, and rarely missed watching the evening news with Dan Rather. Before her poor health limited her activities, Mary loved to go to the horse races and to golf. She loved the outdoors and even when she was wheelchair bound, would take advantage of any opportunity to visit her favorite gingko tree on the San Angelo College campus.
Mary Lambert is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack Lambert; two grandchildren, Tami Hensley and John Lambert; five great grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory, in 1970; by her parents; by Jack's parents, Lester L. and Marie Lambert; by her sister, Nelda (Mrs. Dick) Carrier; and by her brother, Glenn Whittington.

TOPHIA - Royal Tophia
Royal Tophia, age 90, of Lander, died at Morning Star Manor on Sunday, Oct 29, 2000.
Services are Friday, Nov 3 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. The Rev. Lawrence Kelley of the First Baptist Church officiates. Burial follows at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Royal Tophia was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on July 3, 1910, the son of Preston and Luelle (Nixon) Tophia. He came to the United States as a young boy, living in New Orleans. Roy learned the carpentry trade and started working early in his life.
His family says he had a talent for singing and traveled around the South with a group of six men, singing as a gospel group. He was well known for his spectacular voice and dancing talent.
He married, started a family and later divorced. After moving to California, he continued his carpenty work with a construction company that came to Lander during the boom time of the opening of U.S. Steel. His family says the wide-open country, fresh air, hunting and fishing appearled to Roy.
Roy and Magdalena Rodriquez were married on June 6, 1959 in Tijuana, Mexico. They returned to Lander, where Roy worked for U.S. Steel, until retiring shortly before the shutdown. He then worked as an independent contractor for many years.
His family says Roy enjoyed camping, fishing and big game hunting. Hunting trips to Grand Teton National Park were a constant source of conversation. Roy was know as a hard worker and for his sense of humor, the family says. He was very active with Little League baseball and coached several championship teams.
Royal Tophia is survived by his wife, Magdalena of Lander; a son, William Tophia and his wife Robin of Casper; a sister, Audrie Alexis of New Orleans; two grandchildren, Roy and Lilly Tophia and their mother Malachia; and numerous other family members in Los Angeles and New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his son, Joe Tophia.

GITCHEL - Leonard U. Gitchel
Leonard U. Gitchel of Riverton died Monday, Oct 30, 2000 in Walden, Colo, at the age of 26.
Memorial services are Thursday, Nov 2 at 10 a.m. from the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling, Colo. The Rev. T.L. Phillips officiates.
Leonard Ugene Gitchel was born Nov 14, 1973, in Sterling, the son of William D. Gitchel and Sharon M. (Reed) Gitchel.
He attended school in Sterling and moved to Ovid, Colo., in 1990, where he was graduated from Revere High School in 1991. He continued his education at NJC, receiving a degree in computers. Leonard then attended school in Fort Collins for another year and then moved to Riverton, where he worked as an equipment operator for Schmidt Sand and Gravel. He had recently gone to Monument, Colo., to work in construction.
Survivors include his mother, Sharon Reed of Riverton; brothers William Gitchel and his wife Barbara of Riverton, John Gitchel of Milwaukee, Wisc., and David Gitchel of Riverton; step-father Jesse Eubank of Riverton; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the surrounding area.
He was preceded in death by his father in May 1976.
Memorials may be made to the Leonard Gitchel Memorial in care of Chaney-Funeral Home, 443 S. Second St., Sterling, Colo., 80751, which has charge of arrangements.

HORNECKER - Mary L. Hornecker
Services for longtime Lander resident and teacher Mary L. Hornecker are Monday, Nov 6, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist Church of Lander. The Rev. Tom Lane officiates, and interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Mrs. Hornecker died at the Westward Heights Care Center in Lander the evening of Tuesday, Oct 31, 2000. She was 83 years old. She had been a resident of Westward Heights for nearly eight years.
Mary was born to Andrew and Ann (Murray) Smail on March 26, 1917 in Rock Springs. she was a 1935 graduate of Eden Valley High School.
Mary was teaching in Saratoga in 1938 when she met George Robert Klinger. The couple was married at Fort Collins, Colo., on Feb 28, 1939, and lived for a time in the Eden Valley and taught in the Eden School. Mr. Klinger was killed in a car accident on Feb 22, 1947.
After the death of Mr. Klinger, Mary moved to Lander in 1948 to teach in the Lander school system. She returned to the University of Wyoming to study for a bachelor of arts degree in education, graduating in 1962.
Mary and George Hornecker were married on Nov 19, 1965.
She taught in Lander for 33 years, totaling 35 years as a teacher, and retired in 1983.
Mr. Hornecker died on Feb 7, 2000.
Her family says Mary was an accomplished angler and enjoyed camping with her family and working her little garden spot. She was a past chief of the Pythian Sisters of Lander and active for many years with the South Doughs Snowmobile Club.
Survivors include three sons and their families, Robert and Mary Klinger of Lander, George and Betty Klinger of Canyon City, Colo., and Kenneth and Cindy Klinger of Hulett; two step-daughters, Cheryl and John Jones of Lander and Colleen Ellis of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Beatha "Bea" Moffat and Jeanne Lee, and one brother, Dave and June Smail, all of Lander; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

ST. JOHN - Betty St. John
Services for Lander native Betty Anne St. John, age 75, are from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Rev Tom Lane of the United Methodist Church of Lander officiates. Interment follows at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Mrs. St. John died at the Lander Valley Medical Center the evening of Thursday, Nov 2, 2000, following a lengthy illness. Betty was born Oct 17, 1925, to Henry and Bess Terry. She attended schools in Lander and was graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1943.
In 1946, she married Tom St. John of Lander. They had a daughter, Judy, in 1948. They then moved to Laramie, where they had a son, Beynon. They moved in Casper in 1955. While living in Casper, in addition to being a housewife and mother, Betty held part-time positions as a bookkeeper.
The family returned to Lander in 1964 to establish Washakie Printers. She worked in the family business until her retirement in 1995. The business later incorporated, and the name was changed to Western Printing in 1972.
The family says Betty will be remembered by them as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. The family says she focused her attention and love on her family and pets. Her son-in-law often joked that if he were reincarnated, he would want to come back as Betty's dog.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert; and her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy and husband Jim Myrstol of Gillette, their two daughters, Jamie Gilbert of Gillette and Jonie Hines of Davenport, Iowa; and by her son, Beynon and his wife Midge of Lander, and their two sons Tom and Zach, both of Lander.
Memorials may be made to the Lander Pioneer Museum.

INMAN - Edna Marie Inman
Edna Marie Inman, a resident of Fremont County for 53 years, died Thursday, Nov 2, 2000, at her home at the age of 90. Services for Mrs. Inman are 10 a.m. Monday, Nov 6, at the Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Detwiler officiates. Burial is at Mountain View Cemetery.
Edna Marie Kier was born Aug 29, 1910, at Stanberry, Mo., the daughter of Maybell (Bugh) Kier and Floyd T. Kier. She married Leon Spencer Inman on Dec 16, 1928 in Stockville, Neb. They lived at Seneca and North Platte, Neb. before moving to the Arapahoe area in 1947. Riverton became their home in 1950. She worked as a waitress for many years and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Edna Inman was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, in 1981; a son, Marlon Inman; a baby daughter, Patricia; her parents; three brothers, Earl, Ed and Dick Kier; and one sister, Margaret Weber.
Survivors are two sons, George and his wife Ellen of Riverton, and Dennis and his wife Ruby of Elko, Nev.; two daughters, Donita Pickinpaugh and her husband Neal of Riverton and Sheryl Winkler and her husband Roy of Greybull; 21 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, Kaitlin of Casper.

ST. CLAIR - Winnie St. Clair
A litany service for Winnie St. Clair was Sunday, Nov 5 at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander, with fraternal rites by the Olivet Chapter 3, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. St. Clair's body lies in state at her home, 95 Shipton Lane, Fort Washakie, from 4 p.m. Monday, Nov 6, until funeral services Tuesday, Nov 7 at 1 p.m. from St. David's church of the Shoshone Episcopal Mission. The Rev. Tom Means officiates.
Burial follows at the Sacajawea Cemetery at Fort Washakie.
Winnie St. Clair died at the Lander Valley Medical Center on Thursday, Nov 2, 2000, following a lengthy illness. She was 87 years old.
Winnie Welch, a matriarch of the St. Clair family, was born to Herbert and Fannie (Richards) Welch on Dec 12, 1912 at a camp on the Big Wind River near Ethete.
She attended boarding school at Ethete and the government school at Fort Washakie.
Winnie and Wallace St. Clair were married by the Rev. John Roberts at the Roiberts Mission on June 4, 1929.
Her family says Winnie was deeply devoted to her church work and her family. She was a member of Olivet Chapter No 3, Order of the Eastern Star, served for many years as an election judge and was selected to be the marshall of the Pageant of the Old West Parade July 4, 1992 in Lander.
Survivors include daughters Alberta and Frank Foote, Velma and Louis Chavez, Harlene and Earl LeBeau, Bernadette and John Oberly, Bonnie and John Washakie, Leota and Gary Lajeunesse and Iva and Tex LeClair, all of Fort Washakie, and Violet and Leo Lajeunesse of Crowheart; three sons, Reuben and Marge St. Clair of Arapahoe, William St. Clair and John and Melody St. Clair of Fort Washakie; 40 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, who died Aug 24, 1979, Winnie was preceded in death by two sons, four brothers, five sisters, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

APPELHANCE - Rachel Appelhance
Services for Rachel Appelhance are Wednesday, Nov 8 at 10 a.m. from St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton.
A rosary will be held at the church on Tuesday, Nov 7 at 7 p.m. the Rev. Father William Espenshade will officiate.
Rachel died at the Lander Valley Medical Center on Friday, Nov 3, 2000. She was 85 years old.
Rachel Kissler was born on March 1, 1915, the daughter of Conrad and Katherine (Lamm) Kissler in Greeley, Colo. She married Joe Applehance on Dec 7, 1933 in Greeley.
They farmed north of Riverton until 1980, when they moved off the farm. She worked in Woodward's IGA bakery for about six years.
Her family says Rachel Appelhance enjoyed gardening, needlework, reading, crossword puzzles, polka music, dancing and baking, especially for others.
She was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; daughter Darlene Wrape and her husband Chuck; son Ray and his wife Beverly, all of Riverton; grandchildren Mike Wrape and his wife Karen of San Diego, Calif, Dave Wrape of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Sheri Christensen and her husband Cal of West Point, N.W., Lynette Hall and her husband Alan and Brenda Appelhance and her boyfriend Mike Townsley of Riverton; great grandchildren Tanner Wrape, Lindsey Wrape, Christopher Wrape, Tyler Wrape, Courtney Christensen, Amy Hall, Eric Hall, Andrew Hall and Katie and Kacy Townsley; and sisters Lydia Weber and Esther Pattison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Conrad, Fred and Reuben; and and one sister, Ruth Albrandt.
Arrangements are by the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

BRADFORD- Edna L. Bradford
Edna L. Bradford died at the Lander Valley Medical Center Saturday morning, Nov 4, 2000, following a short illness. She was a resident of the Showboat Retirement Center in Lander.
No services are planned.
Edna Leona DuMontier was born Jan 8, 1905, at the Old Wind River Agency neart Fort Washakie, the daughter of Alex and Emma (Niles) du Montier. The family ranched on the Big Wind River. In addition to Edna, the couple had two other daughters, Elsie, the oldest, and Ina, the youngest.
Edna attended rural schools in the area and June 27, 1925, married John Jay Bradford in a double-wedding ceremony with her sister Elsie, and Jack Moriarity, a Dubois-area family.
Edna's husband, John, was a carpenter, and after their marriage, the couple moved to Missoula, Mont., to find work. They returned to the area to purchase land on Highway 287 at the crossing of Bull Lake Creek, where they built and operated the Bull Lake Lodge, bar and service station until its sale in 1955. After their retirement, the Bradfords spent their summers in the Jackson Hole area and winters in California and Arizona.
Edna is survived by two great grandsons, David M. and Daniel Bouche, both living out of state.
Mr. Bradford died Jan 4, 2000, and a daughter, Willma Lorraine, also preceded her in death.

LOPEZ - Betty Lou Lopez
Services for Betty Lou Lopez, age 57, are Wednesday, Nov 8 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. The Rev. Tim Sersen of the Faith Lutheran church of Lander officiates. Cremation follows.
Mrs. Lopez died at Lander Valley Medical Center on Saturday, Nov 4, 2000.
betty was born to Freeman Philo and Ruth (Minton) Herman on Oct 12, 1943, near Hickory, in Caldwell County, N.C.
Betty was a 1961 graduate of the Eastside High School in Patterson, N.J.
She married Pedro Lopez in 1959. The couple divorced after 24 years of marriage.
Betty moved to Lander in May 1985. She was a supervisor for the Wyoming State Training School, employment she held for 14 years. She was in failing health for many years, however, and seriously ill since March of this year.
Survivors include her children, Jesse and Phyllis Lopez of Passaic, NJ, Maria and Mike Tilley of Swansboro, NC and Laurie and Robert Grosgebauer of Lander; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. Wednesday until service time.

HAMBIDGE - Frank L. Hambidge
Frank L. Hambridge of Dubois died Monday, Nov 6, 2000, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was 75 years old.
Services will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Dubois at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov 10. Burial will be at the Dubois Cemetery. A reception follows at the VFW Post 10056, provided by the VFW auxiliary.
Frank was born April 2, 1925, in Danbury, Conn. He was graduated from Gronton (NY) High School in June 1944.
Frank married Faye Robinson June 16, 1951, and they lived in Easton, Md. Frank worked at the Maryland National Bank from 1956 until he retired in 1983.
Frank and his wife Faye vacationed in the West for many years. It was because of their love for the mountains that they made Dubois their home in the early 1990s. His family says Frank truly loved this country and its endless beauty.
Frank was a member of St. Mark's United Methodict Church in Easton, and in Dubois he was a member of the Dubois Chamber of Commerce, the National Bighorn Sheep Center and the Friends of the Library.
Mr. Hambidge is survived by his wife of 49 years, Faye, of Dubois, and many friends in Wyoming and Maryland.
Memorials may be made to the Dubois Chamber of Commerce, the National Bighorn Sheep Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
Memorial services in Easton, Md, will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peach Blossom Road, Easton, Md, 21601, or a charity of the donor's choice.

GROSBEBAUER - Lloyd N. Grosgebauer
Former Riverton elementary teacher Lloyd N. Grosgebauer died Saturday, Nov 4, 2000 in Biloxi, Miss at the age of 68.
Services will under the direction of the Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Ave., Biloxi, at the Howard Avenue Chapel, date and time to be announced.
Lloyd Neal Grosgebauer was born in Mandan, N.D. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and served in the National Guard. He was also a retired school teacher from Jefferson Elementary School in Riverton.
Mr. Grosgebauer was a member of the VFW, Eagles and BPO Elks Lodge.
He had been a resident of the Gulf Coast for the past 10 years, making his home at D'Iberville, Miss.
Lloyd Grosgebauer is survived by a daughter, Dawn Bartolic of Riverton; son Robert Grosbegauer of Lander; sister Donna Miller of Mandan; brother Garland Grosgebauer of Bismarck, ND and six grandchildren.

TEMPLIN - Vic Templin
Lenard V. "Vic" Templin of the Shoshoni area died Tuesday, Nov 7, 2000 at Riverton Memorial Hospital. He was 76 years old.
Services are Thursday, Nov 9 at 2 p.m. from the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. The Rev. Earl Detwiler officiates, and burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Lenard Victor Templin was born Jan 15, 1924, in Mason City, Neb, the son of Lenard William Templin and Nellie Claire (Davis) Templin.
He had lived most of his life in Fremont county and was a graduate of Shoshoni High School.
Vic Templin was engaged in farming and in later years specialized in repairing windmills.
He was a 50-year member of the Riverton BPO Elks Lodge and member of the Eagles Lodge in Riverton.
His family says he enjoyed fishing and hunting and liked to tell stories.
Vic was married to Laura Ann Fender in Moose, and later divorced.
Survivors include sons Charles William Templin and his wife Lola of Shoshoni, and Neil Conrad Templin of Shoshoni; a daughter Vonda Kay Heckert and her husband, Rob, of Shoshoni; four grandchildren; his mother, Claire Templin of Riverton; and a sister, Lucille Gray of Riverton.
He was preceded in death by his father and four grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

Alva 'Jiggs' Earnest died at a nursing home in Midland, Texas, on Sunday, Nov 5, 2000. He was 73 years old.
Services are Thursday, Nov 9 at 10 a.m. from the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel, 801 Andrews Hwy, Midland. The Rev. Bill Gaston officiates. Interment follows at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, under the direction of the Ellis Funeral Home.
Alva James Earnest was born March 22, 1927, in Castle, Okla, the son of Henry and Beulah Mae (Hicks) Earnest.
On Dec 1, 1945, he married Mildred Joyce Clay in Okemah, Okla.
He was employed for BBM Drilling Company in Midland from 1953 to 1968 and then for Tom Brown from 1968 to 1992.
Mr. Earnest is survived by his wife, Joyce Earnest of Midland; his four daughters, Alva Jean Walker and her husband Donny of Levelland, Texas, Sue Jevne and her husband Don of Kinnear, Patti Chambers of Nashville, Tenn, and Melodie Boren and her husband Calvin of Austin, Texas; four brothers, Melton Earnest of Seminole, Okla, Cecil R. Earnest of Delta, Utah, Jim O Earnest of California, and Sam Earnest of Aurora, Colo; five sisters, Mary Scovel of Placerville, Idaho, Gay Coons of Brea, Calif, Betty Tande of Foot Hills Ranch, Calif; Dolly Cinko of Yuma Ariz., and Patsy Light of Anaheim, Calif; nine grandchildren, Heath Hamilton of Riverton, Jim Hamilton of Green River, Stuart Walker of Lubbock, Texas, Heath Simpson of Stanton, Texas, Tim Fort of Nashville, Stacie Davis of Nashville, Cally Hadley of Austin, Texas, Ben Boren of Austin, Dan Boren of Camp LeJeune, NC; 18 great grandchildren and numersous nieces and nephews.

FERRIS - W. J. 'Shorty' Ferris
W. J. 'Shorty" Ferris of Fort Washakie died Wednesday, Nov 8, 2000 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was 62 years old.
Funeral services are Monday, Nov 13 at 1 p.m. from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Wind River Branch at Fort Washakie. President Grant Nicholas and President Lloyd Larsen officiate.
Interment is at the Sacajawea Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday, Nov 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Wind Dancer Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Washakie.
Traditional Indian services are Sunday, Nov 12 at 6 p.m. at the Ferris family home, 42 South Fork Road, Fort Washakie, with a wake to follow.
Wilfred J. Ferris Jr was born Nov 22, 1937, at Fort Washakie, the son of Wilfred J. 'Dutch' Ferris Sr. and Gladys St. Clair.
Shorty was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation and a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe.
He attended elementary school at the Fort Washakie Government School and attended high school at Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota, where he was an outstanding football player. He was graduated from Flandreau in 1956. He attended Haskell Junior College and the University of Wyoming.
He married Kathryn Rose Snyder on March 4, 1957 in Lander.
Shorty Ferris was a rancher, master plumber and carpenter.
His family says he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, bowling, gambling, rodeos, attending auctions and football. The family adds that he loved watching his grandchildren while they competed in sports.
He served on various boards and committees, including the Shoshone Utilities Board, Shoshone Credit Committee, Cultural Central Board, Rocky Mountain Hall Board, and the Johnson-Malley Committee.
He was a spiritual leader and sundance chief of the Shoshone Tribe.
Mr. Ferris was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; sons Will III, Dee Dee Sr. and his companion Donna, Kevin Sr. and his wife Sherry; daughter Barbara and her husband Richard; grandchildren Neal Lynn and his wife Sheila, Morning Rae, Davi Anne, Dee Dee Jr., Juanita, Kelly, Shane, Nikki, Kevin Jr., Kenneth and Ransom; two great granddaughters, Halle and Kiana; brothers Richard, Darrell and Davis Ferris, Edwin, Darwin and Leland St. Clair, Vernon and Meldon Hill, Ben Tillman and Delmar Haukaas; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Daniel; two brothers, Bundy and Raymond Ferris; two sisters and numerous other relatives.

Arthur Sanders Jones was born on Feb 7, 1913 in Riverton, the son of Arthur E and Allula (Sanders) Jones. He received his school in Fremont County. He was a lifelong resident of Wyoming.
Art served with the U.S. Navy, in the South Pacific, during World War II and was discharged in July 1945.
He married Dorothy Fuller on Feb 15, 1980 at Richards Street Church in Casper.
He was a member of the American Legion, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ of Casper.
His family says his passion was painting and carving wood sculpture, for which he won many ribbons at the Fremont and Natrona County Fairs. He also enjoyed writing stories and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jones of Casper; daughters Janet Hayden of Casper, Laura Kofakis of Casper, Vickie Lair of Manitou Spring, Colo., Jenifer Manns of Gramby, Colo; sons Brian Fuller and Dennis Fuller of Muskogee, Okla; sisters Barbara Riley of Casper, Viola Good of Riverton, Vada Carpenter of Cody, brother Dick Jones of Cody; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother, Bob; and a sister, Harriet.

Elsie died at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander on Wednesday, Nov 8, 2000, following a lengthy illness. She was 90 years old.
Elsie Gertrude Morganstean was born Nov 14, 1909, in Coal Creek, Colo., the daughter of Charles and Rose Ellen (Bishop) Morganstean. the family moved to Lander in the early 1920s. Elsie attended schools in Lander.
She married Roy Jason Steers Jr on Nov 22, 1941 in Lander. The couple ranched northwest of Lander, near Milford, for the past 60 years, and Elsie worked at the Wyoming State Training School for 16 years.
Her family says Elsie was always ready to help her family and friends. They recall how she kept her treasured cookie jar full of fresh-baked treats for visits from her grandchildren, family and friends.
She was a 58-year member of the Milford Home Economic Club, the Milford Grange, the First Baptist Church and the Pioneer Association.
Survivors include her husband, Roy, of the family ranch; three daughters, Avalonne Cristando, Bonnie and Dick Willhelm and Peggy Hornecker, and one son, Gary and Kay Steers, all of Lander; one sister, Rose Nylin of Commerce City, Colo; one brother, Jack Morganstean of Lander; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Adele Outzen died Thursday, Nov 9, 2000, at her home in Gillette, following a long illness.
Dale Adele Berry was born Oct 27, 1935, at Okmulgee, Okla, the daughter of Lloyd Wayne and Retha Retia (Ray) Berry. While growing up, she lived in Illinois, Colorado, Utah and moved to Wyoming 1948. She was graduated from Riverton High School as salutatorian of the class of 1953. She then attended the University of Wyoming and later Abilene Christian College in Texas.
She married Gordon L. Outzen on Sept 21, 1958 in Riverton. They moved to Gillette in 1968. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Gillette. Her family says she was always involved in many acts of kindness.
Adele Outzen is survived by her husband, Gordon L. Outzen; two sons, Brian G. Outzen and Neil C. Outzen, both of Gillette; a daughter, Sue Ann Minor of Hollywood, Fla.; four grandchildren; a sister, Jan A. Malone of Riverton; and a brother, Charles W. Berry of Las Vegas.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Sharon Ada Guthrie was born May 18, 1938, in Cheyenne, the daughter of Richard L. "Dick" Guthrie and Blanch (Anderson) Guthrie. She grew up in Wyoming and was graduated from high school in Cheyenne in 1955.
Sharon married C.A. Fancher on Jan 16, 1957 in Greeley, Colo.
She was a homemaker and had been married for 43 years.
The couple had lived in Riverton for six years.
She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Her family says Sharon loved her family and enjoyed reading, cooking, spending time with her family, canning, making jelly, and baking for her husband and family.
Survivors include her husband; son Bill A. Fancher of Casper; daughters Barbara A. Yingling of Casper and Bonnie A. Fancher of Riverton; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Guthrie of Hollister, Calif.

Mr. C'Bearing was a laborer. His family says he enjoyed being with his family, drawing, painting, fishing, reading and hunting.
He was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Mrs. Cross died at her home in Riverton Thursday, Nov 9, 2000. She was 77 years old.
Katharine Underwood was born Nov 24, 1922, in Montgomery, Ala., the daughter of Kenneth Wilder Underwood and Lucie Crommelin (Wood) Underwood.
She married Frank P. Hill on Feb 23, 1944, in Montgomery. He preceded her in death. On Jan 31, 1988, she married William A. Cross in Riverton. He too preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cross was a member of the Episcopal faith and was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Riverton.
She had been a Cub Scount den mother, elementary school room mother, and member of the Riverton Country Club. Kay had lived in Riverton since August 1953. Her family says, "Her love for the wonders of Wyoming cannot be calculated.
They describe her as a "a fiercely devoted wife, mother and grandmother," adding that she took great delight in following the activites of her children and grandchildren.
When younger, she was an avid deer, antelope and bird hunter and was called "the best shot in the family."
She maintained her interest in sports, the family says, particularly baseball and football, until her death. While her health allowed, she was an active golfer and horsewoman. Her other interests were many and varied, and she was described as an excellent singer with a fine voice.
Survivors include sons Frank Parker Hill of Riverton, William Underwood Hill of Cheyenne and John Richard Wood Hill of Seattle; daughter-in-law Mary Kay Hill of Cheyenne; two grandchildren, William Brian Hill and Erin Kathryn Hill of Cheyenne; and a brother, Kenneth Wilder Underwood II of Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucie Underwood; her father, Kenneth W. Underwood; sister Crommelin U. Alexander; and her husbands Frank P. Hill and William A. Cross.

Judith L. Payne was born Jan 19, 1954 in St. Francis, Kan, the daughter of Richard and Eugenie "Genie" (Byers) Payne. She grew up in western Kansas, graduated from McDonald (Kan) High School and had lived in Riverton on and off for the past 11 years.
She married Jim Jesseph Dec 29, 1984, at the Methodist Church in St. Francis. They later divorced.
Mrs. Jesseph was a homemaker. She served on the board of directors for Child Development Services and on the board for the Wild West Winter Carnival. Her family says she loved reading.
Survivors include her former husband, Jim Jesseph of Riverton; her companion, Michael Herron of Riverton; a daughter, Jillian Jesseph of Riverton; her mother, Genie Payne of Greeley, Colo; brother Rick Payne of Greeley, his wife Susan and their children; an aunt, Anne Canon, and uncle, Dick Canon of Arvada, Colo; and many friends.

Gloria Mae Folston was born Aug 16, 1927 to Mitchell and Ethel (Binger) Folston in Greeley, Colo. Gloria finished high school and married Donald Keith Ingle Dec 11, 1944 in Rock Springs.
Donald and Gloria lived wherever his construction jobs took him. The couple moved to Lander in 1959 from the Eden Valley. Donald worked for Brasel and Sims, and Gloria kept the house and raised the children, Keith, Don, Chuck and Tamy. The family says she enjoyed hunting and fishing with Don and the children, and spending time with her family.
Gloria is survived by her children, Keith and Kathy Ingle of Sheridan, Colo., Don and Rosemary Ingle of Sturgis, S.D., Chuck and Charlene Ingle of Lander, and Tamy and Charles Barrett of Lander; sister June and David Smail of Lander; brother Gail and Janet Folston of Lander; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; a son, her parents and one brother.

Jeanette Corbett Roe died Sunday, Nov 12, 2000 at Riverton Memorial Hospital. She was 85 years old.

Jeanette was born May 24, 1915, in Fulton, Ill, the daughter of Warren L. Pratt and Gertrude (Balk) Pratt.
Jeanette came to Wyoming in 1929. She had worked at the Wyoming State Training School for many years as a teacher and in other capacities. She also taught in a number of rural schools. Mrs. Roe had also worked as an assembler for LRC.
She married William "Bill" Corbett in May 1939 in Sheridan. He preceded her in death. On July 24, 1962, she married William Roe in Thermopolis. He also preceded her in death.
Her interests included reading, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom were said to be very important to her.
She was a former member of the Table Mountain Extension Club.
Survivors include a son, Jim Corbett, and his wife Sharon of Lander; daughter Billie Jean Arnold and her husband Edward of Riverton; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Orman Pratt of Falls Church, Va.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, grandsons Emery and Doug Arnold and three brothers.

ASHBY - Melvin H. Ashby

Mel Ashby died at the Lander Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, Nov 14, 2000, following a lengthy illness. He was 68 years old.
Melvin Ashby was born to Milan and Marjorie Ashby on Aug 2, 1932 at Knobel, Ark. Mel attended schools there and was a 1950 graduate of Knobel High School. He attended the University of Arkansas in Jonesboro and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He served as an instructor in the technical aspects of jet aircraft, primarily the F-100 and the F-104. Following his discharge from active military service, he remained in civil service as an instructor in Amarillo, Texas.
While in civil service, Mel met Dorothy I "Dot" Smith. The couple was married in the bride's hometown of Victorville, Calif, on July 4, 1960.
Mel became active in the Church of Christ ministry in Amarillo as its educational director. The couple's dedication to faith led them to take a pastorship in Australia in March 1967, where they served until June 1975. The Ashby family was called to Lander's church of Christ in July 1977. Mel retired from active ministry in 1999. He was associated with and will be fondly remembered for his many years as a member of the staff of Hudson's Funeral Home of Lander.
Mel Ashby is a past president of the Lander Kiwanis Club, served on the board of directors of the Fremont County Youth Camp, the Westward Heights Nursing Home, the board of Dignity Inc, and the Wyoming Bible Camp.
In addition to his wife, Dot, Mel is survived by his children and their families, Don and Barbara Ashby of Lander, and Melanie and Travis Horton Jr of Omaha, Neb; three grandchildren, Kara and Joshua Horton and LeAnn Hastings; brothers J.T. and Dorothy Ashby of Paragould, Ark; Lee "Bud" and Oleta Ashby of Granite City, Ill., Stanton and Flossie Ashby of Knobel, Ark; sisters Imogen Cable and Carline and Edwell Melton, all of Paragould, Florence and Ted Davidson of Albuquerque, NM, and Cona Faye and Nick Ricker of Knobel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leonard Ashby.

Mr. Kennah died at the ranch Monday, Nov 13, 2000, following a lengthy illness.
John Pugh Kennah was born to pioneer ranchers in the Fort Washakie area, Henry Jarvis Kennah and Felicia (Terry) Kennah, on April 17, 1934, at Riverton.
He attended elementary school at Fort Washakie and was active in scouting. He became an Eagle Scout and received the Order of the Arrow.
He was a 1952 graduate of Fremont County Vocational High School of Lander and attended Casper College for two years.
J.P. worked his way up from floor hand and tool pusher to drilling consultant in the oil fields. He worked oil fields all over the United States and spent time in the Persian Gulf, Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. He was an experienced oil well firefighter.
When he returned home, he ranched the home place on the Old Wind River Highway near Fort Washakie, ranched the Dry Creek for 15 years and worked the ranch at Burris for the last 12 years.
He was a member of the Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, the former Lorraine Ida Bradford of Crowheart, he is survived by five children, Terry Taylor of Modesto, Calif., Mary and Mickey Miller of Kinnear, Donna and Mike John, Ida Brown and John Kennah, all of the Crowheart area; one sister, Felicia Costellow and her husband Lee of Casper; brothers Henry kennah and Clarice of Fort Washakie, Joe Kennah and Donna of Lander, George Kennah and Debbie of Green River; and grandons Clancey, Leo, Brody and Tristian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betsy Wostech-Cannon; and a brother, Larry Kennah.

BIG MEDICINE - Archie Big Medicine

Mr. Big Medicine died Sunday, Nov 12, 2000 at his home in Watonga. He was 72 years old.
Archie Big Medicine was born to Horace and Florence Big Medicine in Watonga on March 28, 1928.
He married Agnes antelope in 1954. Four children were born to the union - Horace, Connie, Hiram and Archie. In addition, they adopted three daughters, Teresa Bell, Tara Bell and Leslie Big Medicine.
Archie "Belo" Big Medicine was in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving as an MP.
He was prominent in the Native American Church, president of a chapter in Wyoming. He spent much time on the Wind River Indian Reservation.
Survivors include a brother, Clifton Big Medicine of Oklahoma City; one sister, Merle Big Medicine Lopen of El Reno, Okla; his children, 36 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers, three sisters and one daughter.
Services are under the direction of Russworm Funeral Home of Watonga.

Former Riverton resident Harvey L. Howard Jr. died Saturday evening, Nov 11, 2000 at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh, Ind. He was 82 years old.
Private services will be held, with burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Visitation is Saturday, Nov 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. from Hillcrest Baptist Church on West Main in Riverton.
Harvey L. Howard Jr. was born April 22, 1918.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 487th Bomb Squad in England.
He retired from Amoco Oil Company in 1971, after working with the company for 30 years.
Harvey was a life member of the BPO Elks Lodge 1693 in Riverton, Masonic Lodge 26 A.F.&A.M. in Riverton, the Fremont County Shrine Club of Riverton, and the Korein Shrine Temple of Rawlins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra.
Survivors include sons Roy Howard of Newburgh and Harvey L. Howard III of Moscow, Idaho; and one grandson, Kyle Howard of Newburgh.

Mrs. Kerns died Wednesday, Nov 8, 2000 in Lander, following a lengthy illness. She was 64 years old.
She was born June 6, 1936, in Rawlins, the daughter of Harvey and Emma (Williams) Hansen.
On Aug 24, 1957, she married Don Bonnette in Rawlins. They lived in Rawlins, where they belonged to the Rawlins Rough Riders Snowmobile Club and enjoyed camping with family, arrowhear hunting and riding motorcycles.
In 1972, they moved to Thermopolis. Tina was a mother and homemaker who belonged to numerous clubs and the Assembly of God Church.
Don and Tina were divorced in 1979.
Tina continued her life in Worland, then moved to Lander, where she met Jess Kerns. They were married June 23, 1982, and continued to live in Lander, where they enjoyed camping, church, family and friends. They were divorced in 1984.
Mrs. Kerns moved to Kemmerer, working in the quarry, digging for fossils. She still enjoyed the outdoors and making a living for herself.
She became disabled and moved to Helena, Mont, and in 1997, returned to Lander to live with her sister, Vera Ehle.
She is survived by three daughters, Julie Eads of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Jodi Bonnette of Lander and Vicki Cooper of Thermopolis; two sisters, Vera Ehle of Lander and Doris Bonnette of Encampment; two brothers, Harvey Hansen of Rawlins and Bill Hansen of Douglas; 10 grandchildren and 6 1/2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald O. Bonnette, in 1997; a son, Donny Ray Shields; and a great grandchild, Miles Matthew Omsberg.
Visitation is Wednesday, Nov 15 at the Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis.
