June 18, 2000 - Riverton Ranger
THOMPSON - Clifford Thompson
Clifford Thompson, age 88, died Wednesday, June 24, 2000, of cancer at the Central Wyoming Hospice Center in Casper.
Services are Tuesday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Thermopolis. Bishop Paul Galovich officiates. Burial follows at Monument Hill Cemtery in Thermopolis.
Mr. Thompson's body lies in state at the Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis on Monday, with a viewing Tuesday at the LDS Church at 9:30 a.m.
Clifford Thompson was born Aug 22, 1922, in Salem, Utah, the son of David John and Lucy Caroline Mooney Thompson. He came to Wyoming in 1932 and worked on various ranches in the Morton area. He also tied steel on the construction of Bull Lake Dam.
He was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation for 30 years, working as a power plant operator at the Pilot Butte and Boysen power plants.
On July 28, 1935, he married Cora May Wells in Lander. He and his wife enjoyed rock hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling. He made belt buckles, earrings and rings from rock for his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson was active as an elder in the Thermopolis LDS church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, four brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; two daughters, Eileen Rudd and Joyce Hagen of Casper; six granddaughters and six great grandchildren; one sister and various nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Central Wyoming Hospice Center in Casper.
HERBERT - Harry W. Herbert
Harry W. Herbert died Saturday morning, June 17, 2000, at his home in Riverton. He was 86 years old.
Graveside services are Monday, June 19 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. The Rev. Earl Detwiler officiates.
Harry W. Herbert was born April 12, 1914, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of Harry L. and Mary (Bradshaw) Herbert.
He attended schools in Colorado Springs.
On October 2, 1943, he married the former Evelyn F. Franklin in Grand Junction, Colo.
Mr. Herbert was a member of the Presbyterian faith.
His family says he especially enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Herbert was a coal miner who retired after 25 years.
They moved to Riverton from Arizona three years ago to be close to family. Prior to Riverton, they had lived in Arizona for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn F. Herbert; a son, Harry C. Herbert and his wife, Mari, of Boise, Idaho; daughter Darlene Stagner and her husband Clyde of Riverton; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a son.
Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.
GAVIN - Madge Gavin
Services for Virginia "Madge" Gavin of Lander were Tuesday, June 13 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. The Rev. Tom Means of the Shoshone Episcopal MIssion officiated.
Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Virginia "Madge" Gavin died Saturday morning, June 10, 2000 at the Lander Valley Medical Center. She was 70 years old.
BARTON - John "Jack" Barton
John J. "Jack" Barton, 94, of Shoshoni, died Friday, June 9, 2000, in O'Fallon, Ill.
Masonic graveside services were Saturday, June 17, at 4 p.m. at Lake View Cemetery in Shoshoni.
ROSE - Irvin "Ray" Rose
Irven "Ray" Rose of Pavillion died Monday, June 12, 2000 at Riverton Memorial Hospital. He was 73 years old.
Services were Friday, June 16 at 1 p.m. from the Wind River Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fort Washakie. Interment followed at 4 p.m. at the Dubois Cemetery.
JENKINS - Bernice E. Jenkins
Bernice E. Jenkins, 72, of Arapahoe died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Riverton Memorial Hospital.
A funeral mass was at St. STephens Church on Saturday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Burial followed at St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery.
Rosaries were Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. from the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton and friday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. A wake followed on Friday at Bernice's home at 51 Behan Lane.

C'HAIR - Neil C'Hair
Neil Blase C'Hair, age 17 of St. Stephen's died Thursday, June 15, 2000 in a traffic incident south of Riverton.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the St. Stephen's Cemetery.
June 25, 2000 - Riverton Ranger
WALSTED - Evonne Marie Walsted
Services for former Fremont County resident Evonne Marie (Hallett) Walsted of Bouse, Ariz., were June 16.
She died at the Havasu Regional Medical Center, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on Saturday, June 10, 2000, following a lengthy illness. She was 62 years old.
PALLADINO - Jean L. Palladino
Services for Jean L. Palladino were June 23, with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Mrs. Palladino died on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander following a long illness. She was 77.
CLARK - Blanche E. Clark
Blanche E. Clark, age 95, of Roberts, Mont., died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Cedar Wood Villa in Red Lodge. Committal services and interment were June 23 in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
COHLMEYER - June E Cohlmeyer
June E. Cohlmeyer of Lander died at Lander Valley Medical Center on Friday, June 16, 2000. She had just turned 80 on June 13. A private memorial service will be held.
TOURTELLOTTE - Alice Tourtellotte
Alice Y Tourtellotte, 90, of Riverton died Tuesday June 20, 2000, at Riverton Memorial Hospital. Services were June 23.
CHAPMAN - Darrell A. Chapman
Services for former Lander-area resident Darrell A. Chapman are Friday, June 30, 15 10 a.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander.
The Rev. Tom Lane of the First Methodist Church of Lander officiates.
Interment follows at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Mr. Chapman died at the Fay Case Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Tuesday, June 6, 2000. He was 59 years old.
Darrell Avery Chapman was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Lander, the son of Raymond and Hazel (Clark) Chapman.
He attended schools in Lander and was a 1959 graduate of the Fremont County Vocational High School.
He was well-known in Lander for his longtime employment at the Safeway Store and his involvement in music.
Mr. Chapman attended the University of Denver and owned and operated a music store in the Thornton Shopping Center.
He had spent the past 27 years employed by the Davis County Cooperative as manager of Family Stores and the sale of Standard equipment and supplies.
Survivors include two brothers, Frank D. Chapman of Meridian, Idaho, and Raymond C. Chapman of Worland; one sister, Ruth M. Brooks of Bremerton, Wash.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond and Hazel Chapman.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, WY 82520.

SATMARY - Ethel M. Satmary
Ethal May Satmary of Riverton died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Wind River Healthcare Center in Riverton. She was 73 years old.
Memorial services are Wednesday, June 28 at 3 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton. The Rev. Bret Shroeder officiates. Cremation has taken place.
Ethel May Tautges was born May 26, 1927, in Rhinelander, Wis., the daughter of Charles Francis Tautges and Lucy May (Brown) Tautges.
On Oct 1, 1944, she married Herbert Whiting in Rhinelander. He preceded her in death, and she later married Joseph Satmary in Tomahawk, Wis.
Ethel lived in Rhinelander for 45 years, in Tomahawk for eight years and came to Riverton 20 years ago.
Mrs. Satmary had been a health care worker, having graduated from nursing school in 1979.
She was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran faith and active in worship services.
Her family says she enjoyed her family, pets and needlework.
Survivors include sons Harvey Whiting of Casper, Dennis Whiting of Riverton and Thomas Satmary of Riverton; daughters Linda Salzman of Masinee, Wis, and Cindy Craw of Riverton; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Olson of Riverton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Herbert Whiting and Charles Satmary, and a son, Stanley Satmary.
Arrangements are by the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

VINICH - Helen Vinich
Services for Helen (Mojas) Vinich are Friday, June 30 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander, with the Rev. Ray Rodriquez of Holy Rosary Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Hudson Cemetery.
Mrs. Vinich died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at the Lander Valley Medical Center. She was 100 years old.
Helen Mojas was born on Dec. 19, 1899, in Dubrovnic, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Ivan and Maria Mojas. She grew up in Dubrovnic, where she helped her family raise sheep and other duties on the small family farm.
Shortly after World War I, she met John Mike Vinich, who had been serving in the military. The two were married in Dubrovnic on Oct 23, 1919.
After their marriage, they moved back to John's hometown of Hudson in Wyoming. John and Helen lived in many communities, wherever mining work could be found. They started a family, which includes five children - three sons and two daughters - Sophie, Mike, Mary, Robert and Lyle. They lived in Crosby, Kirby and Gebo, but later moved back home to Hudson.
John and Helen raised their children in the Great Depression and struggled to keep them fed. The family recalls that Helen was a fine cook and always seemed to have an extra pair of knees under her table. Helen was described as an excellent homemaker and gardener, but she said her favorite person was Mrs. John McDonald, the welfare agent who gave out food coupons during the Roosevelt Administration.
During World War II, Helen was a member of the War Mothers. All three of their sons served in the war, one each in the Army, Navy and Marines.
Helen had a very large collection of dolls, one thing she never had growing up in Yugoslavia, her family recalls.
Helen was the last living member of her family.
She is survived by her children, Sophie Tomisich of Hudson, Mike and Mabel Vinich of Hudson, Mary Halverson of Daly City, Calif., Robert Vinich of Douglas and Lyle and Carol Vinich of Lander; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
Memorials may be made to the Hudson Cemetery in care of Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, 82520, which has charge of arrangements.

WILLHELM - Jerry Dean Willhelm
Jerry Dean Willhelm, Sr., of Cheyenne, died Wednesday at the VA Medical Center. He was 56 years old. He was born March 16, 1944 in Cheyenne and had lived there for the past 10 years.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service, including serving
in Vietnam.
Mr. Willhelm is survived by his wife, April "Dawn" Willhelm of Cheyenne,
whom he married Oct. 17, 1980; a son, Jerry Willhelm, Jr. of Cheyenne, his parents, Hughey and Berle Willhelm; a brother, Dick Willhelm of Lander; and a sister, Linda Snyder, of Paradise, Utah.
Services were held Monday June 26, at 1 p.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Chaplain Daniel Crabb officiating. Interment was in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Don Snyder, Eric Tschirhart, Jennings Grauberger and Philip Tschirhart.
Military honors were provided by the American Legion Honor Guard. Friends who wish to may contribute to the VA Medical Center.Transcribed and submitted by Valorie Wilson.
