REGISTER CLIFF IN PLATTE COUNTY

"Site of Seth E. Ward trading post; thousands of emigrants carved their names here in the 1850's and later; the earliest date was 1842. Wheels of covered wagons on the Oregon Trail wore ruts four feet deep in sandstone near here; the trail is still visible.

Messages for those to follow were also carved or written in axle grease on cliff. Three generations left their marks here: T.H. Unthank, 1850; O.N. Unthank, 1869; O.A. Unthank, 1931. There is an Indian burial ground on the summit of the cliff."
