7th Iowa Cavalry - sent West during the Civil War to quiet Southern influence on the Indian tribes, the 7th Iowa subsequently helped tame Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. http://iowa-counties.com/civilwar/7th_cav/history.htm Many of the men returned to the territory to settle down and raise their families.

Fort Stambaugh - Fremont County, Wyoming - Named after Lt. Stambaugh.

Fort Stambaugh was located near Atlantic City on South Pass. Dates of active service were 1870 to 1878 and served to protect the mining camps on South Pass.
